Bourjois Bumper Post: Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick + Rouge Edition Lipstick

I had itchy spending fingers the other day and came across a 3 for 2 Bourjois promotion in Superdrug, along with a freebie of some huge sunnies in a cute little polka dot case.

I decided to indulge in the Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipsticks which are new for the Summer season and my first Rouge Edition lipstick, which I've heard great things about.

The Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipsticks are clearly the Bourjois take on Clinique Chubby Sticks, which are extremely popular. It seems every cosmetic company is coming out with their own version of glossy lip crayons and these are the first for me.

I chose shades 01 Red Sunrise and 02 Fuchsia Libre - the other two shades available are 03 Orange Punch and 04 Peach on the Beach. I was very tempted by Peach on the Beach but decided to go for a peachy-orange shade from another company which I'll show you soon.

Red Sunrise

Red Sunrise is a sheer cherry red which can be built up for a vivid pout. Fuchsia Libre is a sheer pink, which again, can be easily built up. I think that's a huge positive with these crayons as you can decide how noticeable you want your lips to be - you can have a sheer glossy tint or apply a couple of layers to make the colour more vibrant and noticeable. Worn either way, you get end up with a glossy look that is perfect for the summer. The above swatches are layered to the show how pigmented they can be.

Fuchsia Libre

Wear wise, I find these to be very standard. They are not long lasting in my experience, although once the glossiness has worn off they do leave behind a slight tint. They are marketed as being waterproof and providing comfort and hydration for 10 hours, along with SPF15. I haven't specifically tested the waterproof claims but I'm a little sceptical. They are supposed to have a 'bare lip sensation' which I agree with to an extent - your lips feel slick and coated when you press them together but aside from that the texture is very light and almost gel like. They feel really comfortable and almost soothing on the lips.

I like these for Summer and I can see myself purchasing the other colours (however I may look into other brands first).

My other purchase, the 'free' one, so to speak, was a Rouge Edition lipstick in the shade 17 Rose Millesime. I don't really have a huge amount to say about this lipstick other than the shade is very pretty and while it's comfortable to wear, I don't feel like it has the best finish. It looks a little dull which I'm not very keen on. There also seem to be some sparse silver shimmers chucked in there which I could do without. That said, the shade is lovely and I can't imagine anyone could look bad in it.

So it seems like I went for some quite similar shades during this mini spree! I can see myself getting a lot of use out of these lip products and I think the quality for drugstore makeup is fantastic. That said, each item is priced at £7.99 so they aren't particularly cheap and buying two at a time costs more than a lipstick from a mid-end range like MAC.

Oh and the free sunglasses? They're pretty huge but very wearable. The Bourjois logo isn't ostentatious and is placed inside an arm. I don't think the sun protection is great unfortunately. They come with a polka dot zipped pouch which looks great in my opinion and could easily be utilised as a little makeup case for your handbag. A decent freebie, that's for sure.
